Kartik Omanakuttan is a PhD research scholar at Soban Singh Jeena University in Almora, India. He completed his Master's degree in Zoology at Kumaun University in Nainital, India, and currently serves as the Assistant Managing Editor for Grassroots Journals. He is committed to improving scientific communication and open-data practices in ecology and conservation. His research focuses on insect ecology, pollination biology, species distribution modelling, and the conservation of arthropod communities in montane landscapes such as the Eastern Himalayas. Before beginning his PhD, he spent two years dedicated to intensive fieldwork and ecological modelling, building hands-on expertise in survey methods, specimen-based natural history, and predictive species-distribution approaches. He has since completed a number of research projects as a research fellow in India and continues to lead field and model-based studies on community responses to environmental change.
His primary interests and technical expertise focus on ecology and ecosystem service assessment, species distribution modelling, ecological niche modelling, climate-impact projections, field survey techniques, specimen curation, biodiversity monitoring, data synthesis, GIS, spatial analysis, and quantitative approaches for conservation prioritization. He is actively engaged in producing scholarly publications and has authored and co-authored several research articles, reviews, and book chapters.
He routinely teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and supervises student projects and fieldwork as part of his doctoral training. He is active in mentoring early-career researchers, promoting reproducible research practices, and contributing to outreach and capacity building in regional conservation initiatives.
