Akpoghome, Prof. Dr. Theresa

Prof. Dr. Theresa Uzoamaka Akpoghome holds a PhD in Law from the University of Jos; LLM from University of Benin and LLB from University of Calabar. She was called to the Bar in 2004. She is a Professor in the Department of Public Law, Benson Idahosa University, Benin City, Nigeria. She served as the Head of Department of Public Law 2016-2018 and the Dean, Faculty of Law 2018-2021. She teaches Public International Law, International Humanitarian Law, Oil and Gas Law and Legal Research and Methodology. Her research interests and publications are primarily on International Humanitarian Law but she also has publications in Constitutional Law, Oil and Gas Law, Environmental Law, International Criminal Law and Human Rights Law. She is a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. She has attended many national and international conferences and has over 80 publications in reputable local, national and international journals. She has received training grants to Pretoria, South Africa and Geneva, Switzerland from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in 2013 and 2015, respectively. She received a research grant in 2021 from Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN), USA and, in 2022, she received another grant from Konrad Adenuer Stiftung. She has received the research productivity award from Benson Idahosa University in 2020 and 2024. She has participated in the KAS Regional Conferences on Rule of Law for Sub-Saharan Africa, which was fully sponsored by KAS.
