Dr. Saibal Sengupta was born in 1955 at Guwahati and did his graduation and post-graduation in Zoology from Cotton College under Gauhati University. He obtained his PhD from Gauhati University in 1986. His field of interest is herpetology and his research focuses on ecology, systematics and biogeography of amphibians and reptiles. He has authored around 80 research papers published in national and international journals. He has also written 6 books and several popular scientific articles in English and regional languages. He is a member of IUCN SSC-Amphibian and Reptile Specialist Group. He served as Principal and Associate Professor in Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati. Dr. Sengupta is a Certified International Trainer for the GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment). He was also Visiting Professor, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Guwahati and Visiting Faculty of different Universities and PG Colleges. Presently, he is serving as a Professor of Zoology at Assam Don Bosco University.
