Dr. Brown Etareri Umukoro holds a doctoral degree in Environmental Rights from Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria. He is an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, an Environmental Law lecturer, a Notary Public and member of the Delta State Justice Reform Team. He is a former Head of Department, Commercial Property Law, Faculty of Law, Delta State University, Editor, DELSU Law Review and Staff Adviser, DELSU Law Clinic. He is a resource person for Integrated Institute of Environment and Development, Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Nigeria. He did a Master’s Degree in International Humanitarian Law, University of Benin, Nigeria and has attended local and international conferences on armed conflicts and International Humanitarian Law. He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT), Society of International Humanitarian Law Teacher and End Ecocide Nigeria (EEN). He is the Charman of the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committee (ACJMC) (NBA Branch, Effurun, Delta State of Nigeria). His ACJMC visits detention centres monthly in company of designated Worshipful Magistrates in the exercise of a statutory power vested on the Magistrates to check illegal detentions and grant bail to unlawfully detained suspects. His main topics of research are environmental rights, international human rights, and criminal justice.
